The Coffee Research Foundation Koru sub-station, formerly Khitari farm, is one of the oldest three sub-stations established by the Government for coffee research in the country in the mid-1950’s. The sub-station is located in the Western foothills of the Mau highlands on the edge of Nyanza basin. It is registered under Coffee Board of Kenya through a 947 year lease, effective from 1 January 1963. The sub-station was established in 1959 to offer extended coffee research facilities from the main Coffee Research Station at Ruiru. The sub-station serves Kericho, Kisumu, Nandi, Nandi Hills, Bomet and Nakuru districts. The farm is approximately 127Ha out of which 44Ha and 4.66Ha are under coffee and research respectively.
